They can be AI or IRL players, and either way works well. You take turns cruising around the map gaining gear and leveling up. You can play a fun little card game to make a quick buck, buy new weapons, get healed, or trade with Native Americans. When you are ready to take down another player, you bump into them and go into a quick-draw sequence. It works very well.
